Renaming the Middeneaht
Recently DA introduced a renaming feature (for paid members). My username here was chosen 5 years ago and was not really reflecting any other identities online. "Onkami" is a quasi-japanese word that comes (transformed by me) from some anime, and I use it on russian website which is popular among cosplayers (who like Japanese nick names). If however somebody reading this journal from Asia can attribute this nickname to something meaningful, I am all ears.


Also 3 months ago I got a DD for Sakura, and paid for three months of DA premium. It's now going to expire and I want to write another pictured journal entry before it wears off.

Recent collab with BigBad-Red
Irina BigBad-Red and her husband FlexDreams are amazing duo based now in Kiev, Ukraine. He does the photography and she turns it into high-level digital art. Here are few examples, starting from our collaboration, where I gave the image of Faeryx13 and BigBadRed made the background. The rest are their other works:



Make sure to check them out. These pictures are just to draw the attention and their work is much more abundant.

Christian Weiss
I might look ok comparing to some beginners in photography but there are people who are so much ahead. You always feel that your vision comparing to theirs is like mind of a mice comparing to mind of professor of cosmology.  WeissChristian is one of those. He posts very seldom at DA but his blog christianmartinweiss.wordpress… contains more stuff.

Sakura from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles photoshoot
My little tradition is to pay DA some coins when it comes to another DD, so I can use paid features to embed images in my winning deviation's Description and get a better perspefctive of my work to viewers.

I must say I was thrilled tha much only when I received my first DD. In my opinion, a DD marks that what you trying to achieve is starts to take off. Back then when my Alice Cooper shot received a DD I could not believe that it's true, because I was like nobody and this website collects virtually anyone around the globe doing the same stuff. It helped me to grow my confidence and pursue more in that area. When I started portraits and cosplay, it were quite simple shots "cute girl on green grass"... well, I even did not had good idea of White Balance setting back then! And I really was hoping that once I will be known not only as a gig photographer but also the guy that does something else. I adore great cosplay photographers and I am very much into Dark Scene (goths, cybers etc.), so I will pursue some goals in that way.

It will be soon when my paid subscription expires, so I want to write another illustrated journal before that. I usually buy a subscription each time a DD happen (so I can put in new DD signature some thumbnails to promote other work).

I live in Helsinki since June and I like it here. I found several good lolita models with a tremendous set of clothes. I am also going to get my hands on a studio. For the first time ever I live in a city, where I can score some good models! It is funny actually that a real semi-goth model I know refused to reply any of my emails. But lolitas are much, much more polite and we did couple of shoots already. Will not call these shoots tremendously groundbreaking, but it was a lot of fun and helpful experience.

Also there are much more gigs. I can go virtually every week (if I am lucky). Now, with my new workstation I also can do pics faster!

I REALLY would like to be befriended and recognised also for staged portraits. In fact I am more experienced in concerts now, and my portrait works are quite basic. But hope one day my efforts will result in some skills.

7th DD
Wen did a rather short photoshoot with German cosplayers of ex-USSR origin back in 2010 in Koln. Just basically couple of hours in front of the Cathedral, after which I had to rush to Amphi Festival.
Apart from several appearances in online/paper press, this pic got a DD:




Wish anyone a great autumn

Hi there!

I have been away from DA lately. No, I am shooting as much as before. But the critera of "extraordinary" shots have changed substantially. In fact only now I realise how exactly gigs should be photographed. You probably might not see it in my pictures (join my FACEBOOK to see each photoset I publish: www.facebook.com/pages/Askar-I…) but only now I became really concious about what I do during concert shootings. I mean, *during*. not after, so my perception does not change much but I started to be more patient when I take pics.

Also, the great thing that we have to observe always is light. Many people shoot things totally disregarding it. They just believe that  light should be bright and even, one should be able to see the subject. But it is important to have light appropriate. It is important to think what you're doing. Concert photogarphy skills help a lot during normal shootings, because you get trained to decide fast.

I noticed that 90% pics that I post here are from summer festivals. It is obvious — better light and way better chance to get a good pic when you shoot eight hours in a row. This summer Finnish SONISPHERE has happened, and I am coming to AMPHI (GER) and TUSKA (FIN). In fact, for latter I am going to use local transpors, as I am now moved to Helsinki. I like the job, I like the city, at some point I guess you would like to adjust things the way you prefer, correct ?

I was quie happy with a photoshoot I did today, so I decided to post picture here. It took some effor to put together model (face and pose) and also decide on light. My flashes umbrellas etc. were uselless at bright sun; but happily we had her white parasol, that looked to me (as a photographer-shifter person) just like another soft box. And it worked extremely well, providing great light on model, while we let sun strike at her black skirt and elaborate details there.

And after that I noticed that I got another DD. Thaaanks! I hope my portrait shoots will be considered for a DD one day, because now  I put much of my effort into learning this stuff; there are so many great people doing it right, sometimes I would like to hit my head off the wall in my talentnesses, but I walked that path with gig photography (still a lot to learn from fellow people, though) and I intent to walk it again. People learn.
